Albert Edward Drake was born in 1895 in Camberwell, London, the fourth son of Alfred Drake and Louisa Annie (formerly Johnson). Alfred and Louisa Annie married 24 Mar 1883 at Battle Bridge All Saints, London, and this Drake line is traced back to Morley, Norfolk.
Albert was a Rifleman with the 12th Battalion the Royal Irish Rifles. He died 16 Aug 1917 aged 22 (unmarried) and his grave is at Tyne Cot Cemetery (Reference XL B 5). I am indebted to Jim Isard for the photograph of Albert’s grave, and it should be noted that the headstone shows his name as A Drake.
