Harold Hagger of Openshaw

Killed in action 11 Apr 1917, France & Flanders, Private, Service No 200753, 2nd Battalion Seaforth Highlanders. Buried Brown’s Copse Cemetery, Roeux, France.  Enlisted Manchester.  Awarded Victory and British War medals.  During 1917 the 2nd Battalion were involved inthe First and Third Battles of the Scarpe, The Battle of Polygon Wood, The Battle of Broodseinde, The Battle of Poelcapelle, The First Battle of Passchendaele.

Harold was born in 1898 at Openshaw, Lancashire.  He was living there with his parents Paul born in Great Chesterford, Essex and his mother Rosa born in Nantwich, Cheshire.  In 1901 there was a brother Charles and by 1911 he had been joined by brother Frank.  It is sad to reflect that in 1911 Harold was 12 and still at school and 5 years later age 17 he is killed in the war.
