Percy Clarence Drake

Percy was born in 1894 in Clacton, Essex, the only son of Clifford Reuben Augustus Drake and Minnie Maria Legerton who were married on 5 Dec 1889 at Tolleshunt Darcy, Essex.

In 1911 Clifford was a home decorator in Clacton on Sea, and Percy was a 16 year old employee of his father.

In 1916 Percy married Annie Townes and there were no children of the marriage.

Percy was a Lance Corporal in the Gloucestershire Regiment and was killed 2 Dec 1917 in France aged 23.

Percy’s widow Annie re-married in 1920.

His father Clifford died in 1921, aged 57, and Minnie remained a widow until her death in 1949 aged 80.

Percy’s only sister, Constance, born 1903, married Edwin Oxley 16 Mar 1927 at Clacton on Sea St Paul, the couple aged 31 and 23 at marriage and Edwin was a decorator. The couple were named in the 1949 probate of mother Minnie.

Percy’s memorial is on Panel 6 of The Cambrai Memorial, Louverval.
