Thomas Henry Wharton was the son of Herbert Edgar Wharton and Mary May. He was born in Great Bircham, Norfolk.

Together with his cousin Sidney Alfred Wharton he joined the army and was one of the first to be killed during the Battle of the Somme. Thomas was in the 9th Battalion, Essex Regiment.
