Region Robust nicknames persisted far longer in the “North” than the “South” where a more rudimentary Middle English persisted. There were still many examples in the lay subsidies in the late 13th and early 14th centuries, e.g. Brountayl, Clevecunt, Coltpyntel, Cruskunt, Fillecunte, Shaketaille, Twychecunt, Wytepintell.
