William Edward R Greathead was born in 1895 in Drummoyne, New South Wales, Australia. He was the fourth son of Robert J Greathead and Ruth Darwin Rowley. Julian Henry Francis Grenfell was born 30 May 1888 the eldest son of William Henry, later Lord Desborough, and Ethel Ann Priscilla Grenfell.
