Sholto was born in York in 1876, the son of George Golby Pook and Mary Jane (nee Ellis). He was baptised on the 6th September 1876 at St. Thomas Church, York and was the eldest of seven children born to the couple. Edmund West Wadey was born at 1 Beausley Rd Eastbourne to John Edmund Wadey & Ada Amelia West, the oldest sibling of 7 other brothers & sisters. In 1911 census he is listed as a laundry worker and this is the same occ as he has on his enlistment. Bertie Pinnuck

Bertie Pinnuck was the fourth of nine children born to William Frederick and Clara Pinnuck. William, a labourer, died in 1909 aged 36. When war was declared in 1914, many men rushed to volunteer.
